"Drivers often receive more praise than we deserve. Endurance racing is a Team not a Driver's race. No single person wins it and any member can cause the loss. Win Endurance races by clicking off laps and staying out of the pits, not damaging or killing the equipment. It's nice, but you don't have to be the fastest driver on the track." -Hal Prewitt

May 29-30, 2015 - Zandvoort, Netherlands - 3rd round of this year's International Endurance Series Championship. Hal drove two cars, No. 160 Drink Florida Orange Juice Lotus Evora GT4 and No. 83 Drink Florida Orange Juice BMW M3 E46 (3200cc) for Cor Euser Racing. The Lotus in SP3 class finished 1st in class and 9th overall and the BMW 8th and 42nd out of 48 cars in the 12 hours of Zandvoort at the Circuit Park Zandvoort. Other Lotus drivers were Huub Delnoij (Dutch), Cor Euser (Dutch) and Sam Alpass (English). Other BMW drivers were Simon Atkinson (English) and Hubb.
Race was split into two days because of local sound and running limits. On the 1st day Hubb started the BMW and Hal on the next. Cor started in the Lotus each day. Very hard race due to narrow track, heavy traffic and rain in the 3 hours of day one. Dry and cold were the conditions for the 8 hour race the next day. Lotus completed 326 laps, qualified 4th at 1:50.611 and our quickest lap was 1:50.931 provided by Cor. The car ran well but developed a low gear power problem in the last 3 hours of the race. Team was penalized 1 lap due to having excessive crew work on the car and lost another because of speeding under code 60 and opening a door during refueling. The BMW completed 203 laps, qualified 2nd at 1:50.303 and our quickest lap was 1:54.067 done by Hal. It had to stop early because of transmission issues. BMW had no penalties but Simon's luck ran out when he was involved in two contacts; 1st one before causing minor right rear body damage and the other durning the race which impacted right front body and the wheel toe which resulted in reduced lap times. Race report, entry list, results and photos can be downloaded on the series website.
May 26th, 2015 - Zandvoort, Netherlands - Drove two 55 minute sprint races in the
Dutch Race Driver Organisation (DRDO). Finished 9th and 10th in class on the famous Circuit Park Zandvoort. Raced No. 46 Drink Florida Orange Juice BMW 120D from Cor Euser Racing to gain track experence for the upcoming 12 hour of Zandvoort. Event was run late afternoon and under cold dry conditions. The BMW diesel lost power steering and developed an engine problem.
May 14-17, 2015 - Nurburg, German - Raced in the
24 Hours of Nurburgring in a BMW 235i Cup for Adrenalin Motorsport. This is the world's most difficult and largest GT and touring endurance races and is held on the Nurburgring. About 1/3 of the cars failed to finish. Attendance was 1/2 million fans and many more on TV and the internet. The No. 310 Nexen Tire and Drink Florida Orange Juice finished on the Podium 4th in the Cup 5 class of 14 and 47th overall out of 151
cars after 128 laps and the quickest of 09:56.565. Hal drove 3 stints (sunset, sunrise and Sunday mid-day or nearly 5 hours of the race. He was scheduled to drive the last but after having done 5 of these races, Hal decide to give our youngest (Andrea) his first finish of these historic 24 hour events. Our excellent and highly skilled 3 other drivers were Einar Thorsen (Dutch), Carsten Ohlinger (Gemany) and Andrea Barlesi (Belgium).
The BMW 235i Racing was designed to offer an affordable access point for track day enthusiasts who want to take the next step to club, regional or national race series. Weather for the week was between low 30s to 70F with rain and some sun. Race is started in 3 groups. We began in third after qualifying P11 out of 14 cars. Our race was incident free except for the normal exciting racing moments. However, we had a naging low power problem that kept us from producing faster laps.
Apr 24-26, 2015 - Silverstone, England-- Raced at the Silverstone Circuit in the 24 hours of Silverstone and drove the Lotus Evora GT4 for Cor Euser Racing. Other drivers were Sam Alpass, Dirk Schulz, Alistair MacKinnon and Jim Briody. The No. 37 Drink Florida Orange Juice finished 3rd overall and 2nd in class. In 2011, our team was on the podium with the same result. This time we finished 5 laps from 2nd and 10 from 1st overall. Car ran trouble free. I drove about +5 hours in 3 stints and finished the race. Event was a mix of wet and dry conditions. Rain started Sat just after dark and the track did not dry out until Sunday morning near 8 am. This year our lap times were about 2 seconds lower (reduced power to save fuel) or about mid pack with 17 cars able to turn faster laps. Qualified with a 2:18.549 and started 16th overall. 14 cars finished out of 28 starts. We completed 519 laps with most about 2:24 and the quickest at 2:18.581 by Sam. Photo can be found at Gary Harman's website. Special thanks go to the crew and sponsors.
Mar 13-14, 2015 - Mugello, Tuscany, Italy-- 2nd round of this year's International Endurance Series Championship. I Drove two cars, No. 160 Drink Florida Orange Juice Lotus Evora GT4 and No. 136 Drink Florida Orange Juice BMW 120D for Cor Euser Racing. The Lotus in SP3 class finished 6th in class or 35th overall and the BMW 9th and 53rd out of 73 cars in the 12 hours of Mugello at the Mugello Circuit. Other drivers were Huub Delnoij (Dutch), Cor Euser (Dutch) and Dirk Schulz (German). The BMW had no chance to win or finish well in this race. Promoter at the event combined classes and moved all diesel with much the higher powered cars. I drove the maximum time/stints allowed or for about 7 hours of the total. Race was split into two days because of local sound and running limits. Hal started the BMW and Cor in the Lotus each day. Very hard race with each car being hit 3 or more times by poor drivers in other cars. Each was knocked into the gravel trap (not our driver's faults) and loss laps. Lotus lead our class for much of the race until losses due to damages from the excessive contacts. Lotus qualified 4th at 2:01.108 and our quickest lap was 2:01.799. Race report, entry list, results and photos can be downloaded here.
Jan 8-10, 2015 - Dubai, UAE-- Won the A5 class and finished 34th out of 91 cars in the 24 hours of Dubai at the Dubai Autodrome. Drove #75 for Hofor Kuepper Racing in a BMW E46 Coupe. Other drivers were Brend Kupper (Team owner), Martin Kroll, Chantal Kroll and Sarah Toniutti. Drove 3 stints, mostly at night and for about 6 hours of the total. Hard won race against two faster BMWs due to their weight and more power. Qualified 4th at 2:15.765 and our quickest lap was 2:16.899. Race was mostly trouble free except for small oil leak near the end. Race report, entry list, results and photos can be downloaded here.
Dec 12-14, 2014 - Portimao, Portugal-- Set a World Record, won the Touring class and finished 3rd overall in the longest sports car race in the world. The Maxiendurance 32 hr race was held at the FIA Formula One testing track of Algarve International Circuit located in the historic southwestern area of Portugal. The event at 32 hours is supervised by the Spanish and Portuguese Automobile Federations and recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records as being the longest continuous circuit race. With its both grueling and heartbreaking test of endurance, race teams and drivers have to balance work, stress and rest with racing speed conditions and their car's ability to run for 32 hours without sustaining mechanical damage and while managing consumables such as fuel, tires, and braking materials. The event was a milestone and unprecedented in motor sport history. Award winning motor sport author Janos Wimpffen is writing the definitive history and commemorative book of the 2014 Maxi Endurance 32 Hours.
Hal drove two winning BMWs for more than 8 hours in the race for the team of Cor Euser Racing. Race conditions were wet, cold and windy for most of the event but did have a dry finish. Hal started No. 16 Drink Florida Orange Juice and Cor Euser (Dutch) finished taking the checker flag in the winning BMW 120D with 733 laps. The other drivers were Jim Brody (USA), Jorg Chmiela (Germany) and Maurice O'Reilly (New Zealand). Car ran well without major problems and quickest lap was 2:16.251. In the second team car, No. 17 Drink Florida Orange Juice BMW 118i Cup Hal drove with Huub Delnoij (Dutch), Cor Euser (Dutch), Einar Thorsen (Norway) and Marcos Vivian (Australian) finishing 3rd in class with 430 laps and quickest at 2:16.698. The car had to be sidelined many hours due to an ABS brake problem and damaged cable after losing the rear wheel caused by a bearing failure. Interesting note in endurance racing; Huub Delnoij at 16 was the youngest participant driving his 1st and Jim Briody at 71 years the oldest and driving his 75th race.
